SUMMARY:Fall Market & Mingle - West Salem\, WI
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 4\, 2025 we will be hosting an outdoor market style event in the heart of Downtown West Salem. We are setting up local crafters/vendors\, local businesses and food trucks on the sidewalks on Leonard St and Memorial Drive in conjunction with the already scheduled 12th Annual American Legion Craft show and the 3rd Annual Fall Festival at the Palmer Gullickson house. All funds raised from the vendor fees (after expenses) will go to the “It Takes a Village” initiative being facilitated by the West Salem Area Community Foundation. This outdoor market is meant to highlight all of what the Village of West Salem has to offer the Coulee Region and what better day than the Saturday of Octoberfest Race weekend when our village welcomes thousands of people into our community.\nThe event will run from 9am -2pm\nAll participants are responsible for bringing everything they need to set up and operate during the event. (Ie…tables\, chairs\, tents\, etc… as we will not be providing those things for anyone and this is a rain or shine event. All fees paid are non-refundable and are a donation to the West Salem Area Community Foundation to benefit the “It Takes a Village” fundraising campaign (for more information on It Takes a Village\, please check out the campaigns Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61572667254498 )\nWe are also looking for volunteers to help with planning and the day of the event in guiding participants to their assigned spots.

SUMMARY:"Spirit of the Driftless" presented by Sustainble Driftless at Viterbo Fine Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:A new documentary is set to premiere in La Crosse tomorrow\, promising to captivate audiences with its focus on conservation and the beauty of the Driftless Area.\n“Spirit of the Driftless” follows the success of “Decoding the Driftless” and offers a fresh perspective on the region.\nProducer Tim Jacobson said the film explores themes from the award-winning work of Sustainable Driftless through a new lens. Jacobson said it aims to inspire conservation and sustainable growth by deepening people’s appreciation for the Driftless Area.\n“I also would like to add that this film is dedicated to George Howe from La Crescent\, Minnesota\, who passed away last year. And so the film is dedicated to him and his spirit of getting people out in nature and helping young people to learn about and appreciate our beautiful natural landscape\,” said Jacobson.\nThe premiere will take place Tuesday evening at the Viterbo Fine Arts Center. Pre-show activities begin at 6:15 p.m.\, with the screening at 7 p.m. followed by a reception.\nFREE ADMISSION

SUMMARY:The Great North Star Read Together
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 20th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM libraries across Minnesota will host The Great North Star Read Together\, a statewide celebration of the heart of every community: our libraries. Users of all types of libraries are asked to drop in and read to show that Minnesotans are library supporters! We’ll have coffee\, tea\, and donuts provided. And relaxing harp music by a local musician! \nThis all-ages event invites Minnesotans to show up\, settle in\, and support their local libraries by doing something simple and powerful—reading. Whether it’s five minutes or the full two hours\, readers are encouraged to bring a book\, grab a chair\, and help shine a spotlight on the vital roles libraries play in our lives. \nWhy? Because libraries are more than buildings and bestsellers. They’re gathering spots\, learning hubs for everyone\, safe spaces\, and cornerstones for informed\, thriving communities. This statewide ‘read-in is a joyful way to show that we see—and need—our libraries.\nEncourage your community friends to show up and read and celebrate our libraries! \nLet’s remind Minnesota what libraries make possible.\nLet’s fill the state with readers on September 20!

SUMMARY:Duos with Dave Marck: New York City jazz pianist with UWL faculty and students
DESCRIPTION:The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Department of Music is proud to present “Duos with Dave Marck” on Friday\, September 12\, 2025\, at 7:30 p.m. in Annett Recital Hall\, located in the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts. This free concert is open to the public and promises an evening of intimate\, spontaneous jazz improvisation featuring world-class musicianship. \nThe program will spotlight Dave Marck\, a jazz pianist with 45 years of experience in New York City’s vibrant music scene\, performing in duo settings with UWL Jazz Program Director Jon Ailabouni (trumpet) and Ailabouni’s immediate predecessor Dr. Jeff Erickson (saxophone)\, along with select jazz emphasis students from the university. \nEach performance will unfold as a unique musical conversation. While the repertoire will be chosen in advance\, the arrangements and interpretations will emerge organically in the moment. This improvisational approach—particularly in the duo format—allows for maximum flexibility\, deep listening\, and an exchange of ideas between the performers. “Think of it as a real-time musical dialogue\,” says Ailabouni. “In a duo\, every choice matters. There’s both a responsibility and opportunity to spontaneously shape the music. When the musicians are both daring and selfless in this context the effect is electric!” \nFor the participating students\, the concert offers an invaluable mentor/mentee experience: performing side-by-side with a seasoned veteran of the New York jazz community. This tradition of learning by doing—sharing the “bandstand” with master musicians—is a hallmark of jazz culture and pedagogy. \nAbout Dave Marck: a native of La Crosse\, Wisconsin\, Dave Marck has built an extraordinary career in New York City\, performing extensively as a jazz pianist and collaborating with artists across the performing arts. For nearly 30 years\, he worked with Jacque D’Amboise’s National Dance Institute\, bringing live music to thousands of young dancers. He has served as an accompanist for the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at New York University and has worked with an eclectic range of performers\, from comedians Joan Rivers and Cloris Leachman to Broadway luminaries Charolette D’Amboise\, Terrence Mann\, and Tony Yazbeck. \nDespite his decades in New York\, Marck returns to the Coulee Region annually\, where his performances have become highly anticipated events. His quartet concert on the Viterbo Fine Arts Main Stage has drawn loyal audiences year after year; this season’s performance will take place just two days before the UWL recital\, on Wednesday\, September 10. \nHOW TO ATTEND \nWhat: Duos with Dave Marck\nWhen: Friday\, September 12 at 7:30 p.m.\nWhere: Annett Recital Hall\, Lowe Center for the Arts\nAdmission: Free and open to the public.\nMore Info: Contact the music department at 608.785.8409

SUMMARY:Meditations on Trees and Stones: new work by Jennifer Williams
DESCRIPTION:Meditations on Trees and Stones: new work by Jennifer Williams\nOpening reception: Friday September 12\, 5-6:30 p.m.\nThe exhibition and reception are free & open to the public. \nGallery Hours:\n1 – 8 p.m. Monday thru Thursday\n1 – 5 p.m. Friday thru Sunday\nClosed holidays\, UWL Spring Break\, and summers \nThe University of Wisconsin–La Crosse (UWL) Art Gallery is pleased to announce Meditations on Trees and Stones\, an exhibition by distinguished artist and UWL faculty member Jennifer Williams\, opening Friday\, September 12\, with a public reception from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the University Gallery\, located on the first floor of the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts. \nA professor at UWL since 1997\, Williams holds both a BFA from Indiana University and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work—rooted in patterns found in nature\, and constructed environments—spans paintings and drawings\, exploring form through evocative processes and media. \nMeditations on Trees and Stones invites viewers into an immersive contemplation of elemental landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the quiet resilience of natural forms\, Williams engages with the subtleties of texture\, structure\, color and space—crafting works that evoke both reflection and connection. Her layered imagery and rhythmic compositions encourage a deeper\, meditative encounter with the natural world. \nThis exhibition marks a return to themes central to Williams’s artistic voice—landscapes that serve not just as subjects\, but as frameworks for merging observation\, memory\, and abstraction. Her work frequently resides in public and private collections nationwide\, and she continues to enrich the art community both as creator and educator. \nThe UWL Art Gallery\, showcasing works by students\, faculty\, regional\, and national artists\, serves as a vibrant forum for interdisciplinary dialogue within the arts. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.\, and Friday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Exhibitions at the UWL Art Gallery are free and open to the public. \nJoin us for the opening reception to meet the artist and experience this thoughtful exploration of nature’s quiet presence.

DESCRIPTION:Join the library for our latest pop-up book club featuring romance reads and craft time! We’ll have book discussion and craft time over your beverage of choice. Now a bestselling author\, Helen pours everything into her career. She’s even scored a coveted spot in the writers’ room of the TV adaptation of her popular young adult novels\, and if she can hide her imposter syndrome and overcome her writer’s block\, surely the rest of her life will fall into place too. LA is the fresh start she needs. After all\, no one knows her there. \nExcept… Grant has done everything in his power to move on from the past\, including building a life across the country. And while the panic attacks have never quite gone away\, he’s well liked around town as a screenwriter. He knows he shouldn’t have taken the job on Helen’s show\, but it will open doors to developing his own projects that he just can’t pass up. Grant’s exactly as Helen remembers him—charming\, funny\, popular\, and lovable in ways that she’s never been. And Helen’s exactly as Grant remembers too—brilliant\, beautiful\, closed off. But working together is messy\, and electrifying\, and Helen’s parents\, who have never forgiven Grant\, have no idea he’s in the picture at all. When secrets come to light\, they must reckon with the fact that theirs was never meant to be any kind of love story. And yet… the key to making peace with their past—and themselves—might just lie in holding on to each other in the present.

Enter Luke: sexy\, charming\, and best of all in the too-small world of Napa\, a stranger. The chemistry between them is undeniable\, and Margot is delighted that she lucked into the perfect one-night stand she’ll never have to see again. That is\, until the winery’s newest hire\, Luke\, walks in the next morning. Margot is determined to keep things purely professional\, but when their every interaction reminds her of the attraction still bubbling between them\, it proves to be much more challenging than she expects. \nLuke Williams had it all\, but when he quits his high-salary tech job in Silicon Valley in a blaze of burnout and moves back to Napa to help a friend\, he realizes he doesn’t want to tell the world–or his mom–why he’s now working at a winery. His mom loves bragging about her successful son–how can he admit that the job she’s so proud of broke him? Luke has no idea what is next for him\, but one thing is certain: he wants more from the incredibly smart and sexy woman he hooked up with–even after he learns she’s his new boss. But even if they can find a way to be together that wouldn’t be an ethical nightmare\, would such a successful woman really want a tech-world dropout? Set against a lush backdrop of Napa Valley wine country\, nothing goes to your head as fast as a taste of love–even if it means changing all your plans.
