Digital cameras provided by Whitewater State Park\, but personal devices may be used as well. How creative can you be with your images? Play with focus\, depth\, light\, and more while learning about the plants and animals we come across with Master Naturalist Joni Welda! \nWe’ll meet at the new Red Bridge by the Bike Shoppe’s parking lot to begin our trek together! Afterward\, you can send the library your photos\, or we’ll download what you’ve captured and share the album from our walk online! \nThis program is best for ages 7+. Parent or caregiver must be present. Please wear sturdy shoes and pack water\, sunscreen\, and bug spray as necessary. \nAbout our guide:\nJoni is a Fine Art Nature Photographer and Minnesota Master Naturalist. She was born and raised in the Driftless area and has lived here most of her life. She has been a volunteer with the US Fish and Wildlife Service since the 1990’s and continues to volunteer and staff the overlook at Brownsville during the Tundra Swan migration. Joni has also been an avid Bluebirder for 40 years and is on the board of the Blurbird Recovery Program of Minnesota. Joni’s passion is being with Nature and enjoying the Mississippi River. DESCRIPTION:June 14\, 2023 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \n  \n[LA CRESCENT\, MN] – La Crescent Public Library presents the “Testify: Americana Slavery Today” photo gallery exhibit at La Crescent Public Library from June 20th – July 20th\, 2023. This event is free and open to the public during library hours. (Monday – Friday\, 10am – 6pm; Saturday\, 10am – 2pm) \n  \nFormer Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and NFL Hall of Famer Justice Alan Page and his family are again presenting their exhibit “TESTIFY: Americana from Slavery to Today.” This impactful exhibit of the Diane and Alan Page Collection of African-American art and artifacts was originally presented at the Hennepin County Library in 2018. Following the overwhelmingly positive response from the public\, the exhibit has returned in 2023 with a renewed call to action and a wider reach. It is now accessible to the public in Southeast Minnesota as a large-format\, high resolution photo gallery. The family hopes the exhibit will help bridge divides\, deepen dialogue and encourage action on justice. “The objects in the exhibit…juxtapose artifacts from our often-painful shared history with inspiring imagery and works of art that help us rise above it\,” the late Diane Sims Page said of the collection she started. She hoped that “by coming to grips with our past\, we can come together in the future.” Please join us to learn and reflect on the power we each have to act for causes of justice. \n  \nThe Pages produced the traveling exhibit in collaboration with local artist and designer Kurt Mueller and with the support of SELCO\, Great River Regional Library\, the Friends of the Hennepin County Library\, and The McKnight Foundation. Friends of the Library will also host their annual cookie sale from 4-6pm at the La Crescent Community Center. Then we will head over to Merchants Bank (on Main St.) to light the tree.\nMerchants Bank 6:45 pm (approx.) Lighting the Tree\nJoin Santa and Mrs. Claus for the lighting the Christmas tree downtown at 6:30pm.\nSanta rides through La Crescent Neighborhoods \nAfter lighting the tree\, Santa and Mrs. Claus will ride in the Firetruck\, driving through the neighborhoods.
