DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Dates: October 20 – November 17\n1st Floor Lobby of the Lowe Center for the Arts\nDialogue Space (wall outside the UWL Art Gallery) \nJoin us for an exhibition commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the Secret War in Laos and honoring the enduring strength of the Hmong and Lao people. Through the photographs of Ernest Kuhn and Galen Beery\, this collection reflects on loss\, resilience\, and remembrance in the aftermath of conflict. At its heart stands the Joss Paper Eagle\, a sculptural tribute crafted from ceremonial paper used in Hmong spiritual traditions to honor ancestors. As the mascot of the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse\, the eagle symbolizes vision\, strength\, and perseverance—qualities that here take on new meaning as a cultural offering to those who were lost. Together\, these works invite reflection on the lasting cost of war and the power of memory to heal\, connect\, and endure. \nThis exhibition was conceived and curated by Yia Vue\, whose research and creative work explore Hmong history\, war memory\, and the enduring legacies of conflict in Southeast Asia. Developed in collaboration with volunteer faculty and students\, the project brings together historical photography\, cultural symbolism\, and contemporary reflection. \nThis exhibition is made possible through the support of UWL’s Departments of Art\, Archaeology\, Theatre & Dance\, and Race\, Gender\, and Sexuality (RGS)\, as well as the office of Access\, Belonging\, and Compliance (ABC)\, and the La Crosse Historical Society\, among other partners dedicated to preserving and sharing these important histories.

SUMMARY:Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII: A Visible Veterans Program with Frederick Beseler
DESCRIPTION:Join the La Crescent Public Library and presenter Frederick Beseler to learn about the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) of WWII. The WASPs were organized in order to provide pilots\, replacing the male pilots being sent overseas and into combat. The WASPs flew more than 60 million miles in every type of aircraft in the Army Air Forces inventory\, from biplane trainers to four-engine bombers and transports and 400-plus MPH fighters. The primary role of the WASPs was delivering the thousands of new aircraft from the factories to airfields around the United States — including Alaska — where the male pilots trained on those aircraft before taking them overseas. \nThis program is part of our Visible Veterans series\, and made possible thanks to a grant through SELCO and the MN Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. This grant is a collaboration between the La Crescent Public Library\, the La Crescent Area Historical Society\, the American Legion Post #595\, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #11542\, and the City of La Crescent.

Lowe Center for the Arts. \nMaltz performs on replicas of 18th-century Viennese fortepianos\, offering audiences the rare chance to hear the works of Haydn\, Mozart\, and Beethoven as they might have sounded in the composers’ own time. DESCRIPTION:Join a Refuge Naturalist on Saturday\, November 22\, 2025\, anytime between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to learn about the refuge and identify birds stopping over during the fall migration. The Brownsville Overlook is located about three miles south of Brownsville\, Minnesota along Minnesota Highway 26. Temperatures have been milder this fall\, but we recommend wearing lots of layers! \nFor more information\, please call the La Crosse District Visitor Center at 608-779-2399. The Visitor Center is open for winter hours Tuesdays – Fridays\, 9am – 3pm\, closed on federal holidays and at noon on Wed. November 26. Please check back for updated hours around the December/January holidays.

DESCRIPTION:Kicking off our 31st year on Nov 28\, 2025\nThis year\, 2025\, we are celebrating our 31st year with our Rotary Lights Display at Riverside Park. \nNearly 130\,000 visitors per year enjoy this holiday tradition while driving\, walking or taking a carriage ride through Riverside Park. Join us for the opening night parade at 5pm immediately followed by our opening ceremony and fireworks on opening night\, November 28. Santa and a couple of his reindeer will be in the park every night through December 23. The Live Nativity\, Carriage rides\, Hay rides\, and Chili Revolution will be available on select nights. Free s’mores are available every night near the giant snowman. All Abilities Night returns on Monday\, December 1st from 5-8pm. We will be adjusting the lights and music to accommodate individuals that may not have been able to experience the show in the past due to flashing lights and loud music. The ice rink and free skate rental will be available to use when the weather allows. With over 3\,000\,000 lights\, you can imagine the breadth and depth of this holiday display.
