Museums and archives today have to reckon with their institutional history and historical narratives that put the Western world and norms as the default. People who work in the Archives field have a saying for this: “Archives Are Not Neutral,” which tries to address the fact that there are inherent biases in archives, and no history or record-keeping is neutral. Join us for this talk by La Crosse Public Library Archives librarian Jenny DeRocher, who will talk about the history of our museums and archives, and what it means locally to be active participants in rejecting how our cultural heritage is preserved and talked about.
